A Shiatsu treatment session will usually last around one hour; however you should allow longer for your first treatment as there will be an initial consultation, where your practitioner will take a detailed case history. This is completely confidential and enables your practitioner to develop a complete picture of your health according to the principles of oriental medicine and provide the best treatment for your needs.
What to Expect
The treatment usually takes place on a futon on the floor, however if you are unable to lie down it can be done sitting on a chair.
You will remain fully clothed during your treatment. You will find the session more comfortable if you bring or wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing, preferably cotton e.g. sweatshirts, track suit trousers and cotton socks.
Do not eat heavy meals in the two hours prior to treatment.
Do not drink alcohol before of after treatment.
After treatment drink plenty of water to smooth the flow of changes through the system.
Following treatment there will be a feeling of increased vitality and you may feel invigorated yet relaxed.
If at all possible avoid strenuous or stressful activities after your session.
